Orpah is a Moabite and the sister of Ruth. She and her sister marry the sons of Elemelech and Naomi and are happily married for a short while before their husbands and father in law pass away. The widows plan to return with Naomi to Bethlehem, but after she tells them they are free to leave, Orpah stays in Moab, while her sister follows their former mother-in-law.
